Poem: December 21st

December 21st

Outside it is granite gray,
dark and Vermont cold,
colorless, sleet clicking
against the windows in the dark.

Inside, your heart is in Italy,
vibrant, alive with flavor and sun,
memories of love and warmth,
of walks on canals, hands touching,

hearts touching,
color filling your days,
not just then,
but now.
