Poem: Delicious Beauty

Delicious Beauty

In the dark hours before dawn,
you read your worn bible
in the November silence.

a delicious beauty in your prayers,
undisturbed, undistracted,
so powerful they fill the room,
fill your heart
to bursting.

A photograph taken in this moment
would show you, lit
by a single desk lamp,
the mahogany glow of your plantation desk,
warm and inviting, your head
bowed, alone in the dark, and yet

in this silence,
you are anything
but alone.

I didn't have a good picture of my desk, so I used this shot instead. The picture was taken at Saint Thomas' in New York City. Middle of the afternoon, in the middle of the largest city of the world, and the church was empty, a place of total peace. You can click on it for a larger version.
