Poem: Statuary Thoughts

Statuary Thoughts

Staring at the white marble,
eternally strong against the Roman sky,
you are aware

of the fleeting moment,
of your softness,
of the tender time you call life,

remembering all the things
forgotten by others,
fleeting moments, meals,

whispered love at midnight,
you remember
the pain of loss, and the surprise

that angels watch over you
at the moments you least deserved it,
that's God's love is more eternal

than the marble before you,
whiter, stronger, yet somehow,
tender as a lover's touch.

Nice words, Tom. I love the power captured within marble.
