Poem: On Seeing Swans in Newport

On Seeing Swans in Newport

How do they know,
these two swans that gracefully bond
and swim together for life,
their every motion, a symbol

of everlasting love, of beauty undimmed
for a lifetime. What draws them
one to the other, what power
or chemistry or destiny

seals their fate?
What God whispers in their ear,
softly foretelling fate, whispering,
"This one. Forever."?
