Poem: Still Life

Still Life

You pause and look at the table,
timeless light spilling over the rough wood,
casting tiny shadows, dark and still.

After years of flux, of constant change,
pain and growth, life has become still,
a pause, a time to take a deep breath

and simply be;
to let the heart grow still
and know once again, God,
to know once again, yourself,
to know once again, love.

I truly appreciate the calm focus of this poem and the image. I so need this just now...one more day of exams to go...and graduation Saturday. I am planning a still life for Sunday.

Hi Tom,

You can see that the items come from an earlier age, when life was easier in some ways and much harder in others. But there was always a time for stillness. The picture and poem illustrate this beautifully.

Dear Tom, "simply be" is everything in life! I liked the peace and the thought in your poem. You are an artist, congratulations!
