Poem: There is no forever

There is no forever

There is no forever.
Flowers bloom and die.
Leaves fall and bud anew.
Tides rise and fall and rise again.

There is no forever.
Lovers fail you.
Friends abandon you.
The dearest die.

There is no forever,
only the moment,
the reaching, the hope
for what only God can give,

the moment,
like manna, his fleeting eternal gift:
all we need,
for as long as we accept it.
